Most of these articles were over my head, and just made me more confused. But I'll read them again, and hope that the second time I'll get a better understanding.
Mary, you are definitely not alone. I consulted Wikipedia for more simplified explanations, and I did Google searches...these technologies are complex!
Seconded, Mary & Michelle! I re-read these articles twice & it was still confusing. The W3 tutorial was very helpful, though. Take some comfort in the fact that the author of the IBM article acknowledged that XML was "difficult for beginners to navigate."
I too consulted Wikipedia for clarification. As far as I can tell, we'll never really need XML except in this class and if we pursue something computer-wise in possible future vocations. And even then, I'm not sure we'll need it. So much is like with this blog site that all you need to do is input your information and it'll spit it out for you.
